Kiteboarding Insurance

You need to have your insurance set for your trip !

The IKO kitesurfing insurance provides coverage for both recreational and professional kitesurfing activities, including related sports such as kitesurf competitions, snowkite, stand-up paddleboarding, surfing, wingfoil, and kayaking. It is included in all IKO memberships starting from 1 June 2020 and becomes effective once the membership payment is completed.

The insurance includes several key components:

  • Recreational Third Party Liability Insurance: Covers claims resulting from injuries or damage to other people and/or their property during kitesurfing activities, with a maximum limit per claim of €200,000. This also covers damage to third-party equipment, such as kites or boards, subject to a €250 excess.
  • Professional Third Party Liability Insurance: Available for IKO Assistants, Instructors, and Trainers, it covers claims arising from their professional activities, including injuries or property damage caused during lessons. However, this does not cover liability for students’ actions unless the incident results from the instructor’s negligence.
  • Personal Accident Insurance: Provides compensation for the insured individual in the event of disability, rescue, or death due to kitesurfing activities, with a rescue benefit of €8,000, and €15,000 for disability or death. This does not cover medical expenses.
  • Coverage for Students: Students are not covered under the instructor’s professional liability insurance if the incident is due to their own actions or failure to follow instructions. Students must obtain their own recreational third party liability insurance if they wish to be covered.

It is important to note that the insurance does not cover medical expenses, loss of earnings, or damage to the insured’s own equipment. In case of an accident, the insured must contact IKO Support to initiate a claim, regardless of whether the incident involves a third party or personal injury. The insurance is valid worldwide, except in the USA and Canada for professional liability coverage.
